Biography

Reliable hitmakers Orange & Lemons are very much present, relevant, and doing what they do best: writing great tunes with even greater confidence as they dictate their own terms. Moving past challenges — including lineup changes — while navigating new ones, their group is as solid as ever, playing shows and releasing new music on singer, guitarist, and main songwriter Clem Castro’s own indie label Lilystars Records.” — Billboard Philippines / July 2024

Orange & Lemons is a Filipino indie pop and alternative rock band formed in 1999 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Clem Castro, alongside drummer Ace Del Mundo and bassist JM Del Mundo. Emerging at the turn of the millennium, the band carved a distinct identity with a sound that bridges jangly guitar pop, alternative rock, and experimental textures—drawing influence from acts like The Smiths, The Beatles, and Eraserheads.

The band rose to prominence with their sophomore album Strike Whilst the Iron Is Hot (2005), which achieved quadruple platinum status and cemented their place in the Philippine music landscape. Their third album, Moonlane Gardens (2007), was awarded Album of the Year at the NU Rock Awards, further establishing their reputation for both commercial appeal and artistic ambition.

Following their initial run, the band went on hiatus in 2007. A decade later, in 2017, Orange & Lemons re-emerged as a trio, marking their return with the single “Lovers Go, Lovers Come.” The following year, they released a 15th Anniversary Edition of their debut album Love in the Land of Rubber Shoes & Dirty Ice Cream, reintroducing their early work to a new generation.

In 2018, the band expanded their live sound with the addition of keyboardist Jared Nerona (formerly of The Space Flower Show), who later contributed arrangements to their fourth studio album, La Bulaqueña (2022), a critically noted return to Tagalog songwriting infused with their signature melodic sensibility.

Continuing to evolve, Orange & Lemons remains a vital force in contemporary Filipino music—balancing nostalgia and reinvention, while shaping a sound that resonates across generations and beyond borders.
